I have 20+ years of coaching and competing experience and have worked as a full-time coach for the past 7 years. I am passionate about developing efficient movement in the water and growing strong and smart swimmers of all ages!

I hold coaching certifications in the following: Total Immersion, United States Masters Swimming (USMS), American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), & Red Cross WSI (Water Safety Instruction).  I am a Licensed Training Partner with the American Red Cross and active with WOWSA (World Open Water Swimming Association).

I swam across the English Channel before swimming at American University in Washington, DC. I live in Riva, Maryland with my two children and kitty, Elli. I love open water swimming for competition and adventure!  And, I most recently made the National USMS Top 10 List in (3) individual swim events in 2018.

I discovered the wonderful world of athletics as an adult. It wasn’t until my early 30’s I personally experienced the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. Once I was “bitten by the bug” I immersed myself in the triathlon world. Within my first year went to the USAT National Championship. After taking time off to have a baby I focused on long course racing completing 4 Ironman races and going to the 70.3 Worlds Championship.

My passion for sports and being the best I can be spread and I started helping others. I became a level 3 cycling coach with USA cycling and a level 2 swim coach with US Master’s swimming.

Whether it’s little kids or adults my goal in coaching is to help everyone enjoy an active lifestyle and be the best they can be.

Russell Platt

As a formal wrestler, I discovered my love for team sports in high school. Receiving a job offer for lifeguarding, I started working in the aquatics field at the age of seventeen with no formal swim training. Falling in love with the sport of swimming I went on to receive my WSI and USA swimming certifications.

After teaching lessons and running intramural swim teams, I was offered a coaching position at the Severna Park Racquetball and Fitness Club as an Assistant Age Group Swim Coach with the Stingrays.

Over the last two years, I have also had the privilege of Running Severn River Swim Club’s community summer team. Coaching professionally along with running an aquatics facility for three years has cultivated a deep passion and appreciation for all things swimming.
